This Lie Is Destroying Democracy: The Real Difference Between Liberalism and Liberal

current affairs Jul 18, 2025

We’ve been trained to confuse freedom with abandonment.

There’s a lie at the center of modern politics—and most people don’t even see it.

It’s not red vs. blue. It’s not left vs. right.
It’s this:
Liberalism and Libertarianism are not the same.
And mistaking them is tearing apart our systems, our protections, and our ability to stand together.

The Distinction

Liberalism (in its current form) says:

  • Government is a tool to protect civil rights and care for the public good.

  • Everyone deserves access to education, healthcare, clean water, and equal protection under the law.

  • Freedom is real only when everyone has it.

Libertarianism, on the other hand, says:

  • Government should interfere as little as possible.

  • Markets—not people—should decide what’s valuable.

  • You’re on your own.

In theory, libertarianism sounds like radical freedom.
In practice, it leads to the privatization of truth, the commodification of survival, and a society where the vulnerable are simply erased.

The Quiet Machine: Atlas Network

Enter the Atlas Network—a powerful global engine behind the libertarian wave.

Atlas supports over 580 think tanks in 100+ countries, each trained to shift policy using one script:
deregulate, privatize, reduce, and withdraw.

They don’t run for office. They don’t need to.
They train, fund, and seed local influencers who slowly change the public conversation around health, education, labor, the environment—and even morality.

You’ve seen their fingerprints in:

  • Australia’s shift toward deregulation and privatization

  • Brazil under Bolsonaro

  • Argentina’s current austerity program

  • The UK post-Brexit

  • Eastern Europe’s nationalist-libertarian pivot

  • And the U.S. through Heritage and Project 2025

The Freedom Lie

Libertarianism sells itself as freedom.
But freedom without care is not liberation—it’s abandonment.
Freedom without regulation is not empowerment—it’s elite lawlessness.

This is the lie:
That if everyone acts for themselves, the world will magically be just and fair.
But the world is not a marketplace.
It’s a web.
And when we allow it to be stripped thread by thread, we all fall.
